Dungeons & Dragons 3.5

Item Generator

Roll from the SRD or your accessible Item Shop, or assemble a new rules-based item from compatible effects, materials, enhancements, activations, intelligent properties, and curses. The interacting choices create an enormous range of reproducible possibilities.

No generative AI: this tool uses deterministic selections, SRD rules, and curated data.

Build an item for the moment you need

Use broad filters for inspiration or combine source, item type, value, material, enhancements, keywords, effect magnitude, intelligence, and curse severity for a tightly directed result. Rings and wondrous items can combine effect families and activation modes; charged items can carry several differently priced uses and recharge conditions; equipment can combine exact bases, materials, and compatible enhancements; Epic generation supports artifact-scale powers and equally dangerous curses. Together these systems produce an enormous number of reproducible permutations rather than a short list of cosmetic variations.

Choose the source pool

SRD only uses public rules entries. Procedural only assembles new items from compatible templates. SRD + procedural mixes those pools. When signed in, Item Shop only combines the SRD with custom items you created or can access through group sharing, while Item Shop + procedural adds newly assembled results. Choosing the Epic character level uses procedural magic so an artifact-scale result can be assembled.

Shape the mechanics

Choose an exact SRD weapon, armor, or shield base, then apply compatible enhancements and materials. Effect-family selection keeps rings and wondrous items varied, while magnitude ranges, energy immunity, curses, and intelligent-item controls set the mechanical extremes. Epic items can reach +100 skills, +30 abilities, +15 saves, and +20 defenses; energy protection beyond resistance 50 becomes immunity.

Control the theme

Separate multiple themes with commas. Keywords recognize complete words across spell schools, enhancements, damage types, alignment, and intelligent-item personality. Terms such as frost, dragon, abyssal, and angel connect to their associated rules concepts.

Example recipes

Make an infernal dagger

Set the source to Procedural only, choose Weapon, select Dagger as the item base, and enter hell. The theme connects Lawful Evil and fire, allowing an Axiomatic, Unholy, and Flaming dagger.

Build a focused spell staff

Choose Staff and enter a school such as necromancy, or a damage theme such as frost. The staff draws matching spells, assigns their charge costs, and uses the highest required minimum caster level.

Find a level-appropriate reward

Select character level 1–20 to use a suggested single-item value band, then narrow the item type if desired. Choose Epic for a procedural magic item worth 250,001–1,000,000 gp. These bands are generator guidance rather than official encounter-treasure rules.

Generate valuable mundane treasure

Choose Miscellaneous and Mundane only to generate jewelry, loose gemstones, artwork, luxury goods, or collectible curios. A value range can turn the result into anything from a modest trade good to a royal treasure.

Experiment with unusual materials

Choose a form such as Ring and a material such as Adamantine. The generator preserves the requested concept, includes the material in the name, and reports applicable hardness and hit points even when no form-specific price rule exists.

Create a dangerous personality

Allow intelligence for the SRD’s rare seeded chance, or guarantee it when you want a speaking NPC item. Intelligent items receive mental abilities, communication, languages, senses, motivations, personality traits, and possible special purposes with dedicated powers. Keywords can guide those details.

Generate a cursed relic

Enable curses, request 2–3, and choose a severity band such as Moderate–Extreme. Curses can include paired benefits, form-specific consequences, hidden discovery methods, and removal conditions, or deliberately provide no generated means of discovery or removal. Epic curses expand activation eligibility and scale damage, penalties, save DCs, summons, vulnerabilities, and paired liabilities to match artifact-level powers.

Forge an epic artifact

Choose Epic as the character level for the full 250,001–1,000,000 gp band, or enter a minimum of at least 250,000 gp without a maximum to assume a 1,000,000 gp ceiling. Epic rings and wondrous items gain artifact-scale bonuses, energy immunities, and extraordinary secondary powers. A minimum of 1,000,000 gp or more is beyond what the generator permits.

Value guidance: character level provides an Alchemic Arts single-item search band and influences price fit without favoring item types that happen to have larger catalogs. Explicit values override level guidance. When only a minimum is entered, a minimum below 250,000 gp assumes a 250,000 gp maximum; a minimum from 250,000–999,999 gp assumes a 1,000,000 gp maximum. Minimum values of 1,000,000 gp or more are rejected. Every result above 250,000 gp is marked Epic/Artifact-level.

Repeat or keep a result: copy the seed to reproduce the same item with the same filters, copy the complete item text for your notes, or add it directly to your Item Shop. The most recent result is also restored after a page refresh.

Available categories: procedural assembly covers armor, shields, weapons, ammunition, rings, staves, wondrous items, Epic/Artifact-level rings and wondrous items, masterwork skill tools, and valuable mundane miscellaneous items. Masterwork tools cover every SRD skill in the database and grant a +2 to +10 circumstance bonus at 50 gp per +2. Miscellaneous results include jewelry, loose gemstones, artwork, luxury goods, and collectible curios whose appraisal reflects their materials, refinement, size, workmanship, ornament, and provenance. Wearables, wands, rods, potions, scrolls, and alchemical items can also be drawn from the SRD or accessible Item Shop so their stored construction and rules text remain intact.
